Box Elder Civil Docket Searches
Utah Courts Xchange is the main public database for Box Elder County. It holds District and Justice Court case histories. If you have a case number, use it. A name or company search works best with a court filter. Add the right case family and a date range as well. Before trusting a match, check the case style, the filing date, the court location, and each party's role.
Xchange is paid. Every Search click you run gets billed to the account. Free terminals at the courthouse dodge that cost. Missing an image? Call, mail, or visit the clerk who holds the record. The District clerk at 435-734-4600 covers Brigham City District records. County small claims and limited matters go to the Justice Court clerk at 435-734-3390. Tremonton and Willard run their own Justice Courts.
- Select District, Justice, or both jurisdictions.
- Limit the scope to Box Elder County or one court.
- Search by number, party, company, or case type.
- Verify party role, style, date, and venue.
- Read the history in date order.
- Request a certified record from its clerk.
Box Elder Civil Search Codes
Civil codes are navigation aids, nothing more. They never prove that the claims in a complaint are true. Xchange sorts civil matters into families such as DC Debt Collection, CV Civil, CT Contract, EV Eviction, LT Landlord/Tenant, TA Automobile Tort, ST Small Claims, and TJ Transcript of Judgment. Domestic and probate carry their own labels, including DA Divorce/Annulment, DF Divorce with Children, ES Estate Personal Representative, and AJ Abstract of Judgment.
| Field | Civil use | Check |
|---|---|---|
| Jurisdiction | District, Justice, or both | Do not infer venue from an address |
| Name/company | Party, estate, creditor, or business | Test spelling variants |
| Date panel | Filing, judgment, or satisfaction | Pick the date that answers the question |
| Search type | All cases or judgments only | Judgments omit prior steps |
The official Xchange case-type page is captured here.

Civil Dockets: What They Show
Open a Box Elder County civil docket and you can see the court, the case number, the type, the style, the filing date, parties and their roles, lawyers, the assigned judge, claims or events, hearings, motions, service entries, orders, judgments, and public monetary fields. Domestic and probate histories can mix open entries with private filings. The case shell being public does not mean every attachment is.
| Case number | The Utah case number, verified with court location. |
|---|---|
| Parties | Plaintiff/defendant or petitioner/respondent roles. |
| Filings | Complaint, petition, answer, motion, notice, or order entries. |
| Settings | Scheduled hearing type, date, judge, and location. |
| Judgment | Judgment, decree, dismissal, satisfaction, writ, or appeal activity. |
Utah's official case-history example shows the public field structure.

Its chronological frame helps distinguish a filed claim from the court's later decision.
Box Elder Civil Party Roles
Party codes keep a crowded caption readable. PLA and DEF mark the conventional claim setup, while PET and RES usually signal a petition and its response. INT identifies an intervenor, and GAL, GAR, or GRD can point to a guardian or representative role. AKA and DBA reveal alternate or business-name ties. One caution: a listed lawyer is counsel of record, not a party.
- PLA / DEF
- Plaintiff and defendant in a conventional civil claim.
- PET / RES
- Petitioner and respondent in a petition-based matter.
- Judgment
- A court's recorded determination, not merely the filing of a complaint.
- Satisfaction
- A later entry recording post-judgment activity; it does not erase the original judgment.
Write the exact role next to every party name. Common names pull in unrelated cases, so the role, style, filing date, and court all have to line up before you trust a docket result.
Cases Filling the Civil Docket
First District in Brigham City handles most Box Elder County civil work: general civil, domestic, probate, and judgment matters. Justice Courts take small claims and other limited civil cases. All Utah small claims have been routed to Justice Court since 2009. What matters in Xchange is the case location, not where a party lives.
- Contract, debt collection, and other general civil claims
- Eviction filings
- Automobile and other tort matters
- Divorce, custody, and domestic cases where public
- Estate and other probate histories where public
- Small claims in the proper Justice Court
- Abstract, transcript, and other judgment records

Box Elder Civil Filing Volume
The official FY2023 District report shows what a Box Elder civil docket search is most likely to surface. General-civil filings totaled 907, and 808 of those were debt collection. Domestic filings came to 429, probate to 188, and judgments to 1,076.
These figures measure court workload, not unique parties or merits. A disposition may close out a much older filing. Nothing here tells you whether a specific claim won, lost, stayed open, or has public documents.
Hearings on the Civil Docket
A typical civil docket moves from complaint or petition to summons and service, answer, motions, case management, discovery, mediation, trial or hearing, judgment or dismissal, post-judgment work, and maybe appeal. Probate and domestic cases add appointments, accountings, or decrees. Not every step is public or required. A setting only means something was scheduled; it does not show a motion was granted. Check the date, judge, court location, and any remote instructions in the Utah court calendar, then confirm changes with the clerk. A reset simply moves a date, and the claim itself lives on.
Civil flow: Filing → Service → Response → Motions → Hearing or Trial → Judgment → Satisfaction or Appeal
Box Elder Civil E-Filing
Utah Courts eFile and eFlex are submission tools for attorneys and registered filers, not a public civil docket search. Once staff enter a filing in CORIS, the open case-history layer can surface in Xchange. District documents filed electronically since July 1, 2010 may be available to purchase, though certified copies still come from the clerk. The official eFile/eFlex login shows the account-based filing route.

The official First Judicial District resource page appears here.

It supplies court orders and district material tied to Brigham City's broad civil venue.
Who Can See Civil Dockets
Utah treats court records as public unless a statute, rule, or order says otherwise. Domestic and probate history can stay public. That can happen even where filings or personal details are sealed. Adoption and civil-commitment matters sit outside ordinary public Xchange searching. So a caption can be visible while an exhibit stays restricted.
Key rules:
UCJA 4-202.02 sets public, private, protected, sealed, and restricted classes.
UCJA 4-202.03 governs access to those classes.
UCJA 4-202.09 permits a certified copy when access, identification, and fee terms are met.
Xchange charges $1 for a public document image when a link is present. If the link is missing, use the clerk's record request process. The judiciary usually answers within ten business days, though private-record requests may require proof of authority.
Missing Box Elder Civil Filings
A judgments-only lookup in Box Elder County can leave gaps. The complaint and the steps in between stay out of view. You see the end without the story. A satisfaction entry only notes later activity; it does not change the original judgment. When a judgment number you know fails to show in the county docket query, check the original court, an appeal court, and archive channels too. Older records may need a CORIS conversion check.
When a result is incomplete: save the case number and location, ask the holding clerk for the named document, and request certification if the record must be official. Describe a private item as an access limit, not a missing fact.
Check the venue on city-captioned results. It could be county Justice, municipal Justice, or District, and the label matters. Garland's former city court and its current transfer path make the location field worth a close look. Tremonton and Willard keep their own local court contacts.
